Professional Business Article Distribution Service
When your article is posted on a website or blog, your website's back links will be identified as either "no follow" or "do follow" depending upon the site or blog owner's policies as it applies to your article.
A "do follow" link is counted and followed by search engines, whereas a "no follow" link is not. You can still list your website URL in your article - typically in the body somewhere but we recommend ALWAYS at the bottom. It is the best practice to print the full URL and hyperlink it as well as a hyperlink from your brand or business name. This will enable readers to easily copy and paste your URL into a browser window if the hypertext link is deactivated.
To ensure the best impact for your article(s), it is vital that it is well-written. Your brand will be promoted regardless of whether or not you have "do follow" links.
Bigfoot.Marketing provides professional, manual article submission / distribution services.

Effective Small Business Marketing is NOT about Spending More Money
If you are wanting to advertise your business, there is no limit to what you can spend. As a small business owner, you must learn HOW to market, not simply find someone to tell you how to spend your marketing budget. You can do that on your own!
Learn The Difference between Marketing & Advertising
- advertising is simply spending money to publish your brand
- marketing is based upon education and strategic planning and is not fundamentally based upon spending money
- advertising is a component of marketing, but the marketing strategy is the guide for where and when to spend money
Learn the Truth about Branding, Marketing & Top of Mind Awareness
Your business’s brand includes your logo, colors and short messages (very short!). A brand alone is powerless to bring you customers and make you more money. Your branding MUST be simple and clear, but it is NOT “all important” to your company!
It takes effective MARKETING to promote a brand. Marketing includes your messages and the vehicles that are used to bring those messages to your target market.
Small businesses market with the hope of achieving what is often called "top of mind" awareness for their brands.
What is Top of Mind Awareness for Your Small Business? When someone in your target has a need for a product or service that your company provides, and the name or your business or your name is the first thing that they think of, you have achieved "top of mind awareness" with that person.
How to Validate an Article Submission Company
Read through their site and see if they use proper English grammar.
Being off-shore does not mean that they cannot do a good job for you, but if the company is trying to market to an English speaking audience, they should be able to use proper English grammar.
- Even if they need to hire someone to do this for them!
Otherwise, you may want to still test them to see how effective their article submission service is, but definitely don't pay them to write your articles for you.

Trade Articles with Business Buddies
What is a Business Buddy?
There are two different types of business buddies.
- A business buddy that is a business owner that is in a complimentary industry.
- A business buddy is a business owner in the same industry that is for some reason not a significant competitor, we call "coopetors".
Your Complimentary Business Buddies
Complimentary business buddies are in businesses that are not directly competitive, but frequently share the same clients.
For example, in the residential services industry, there are electricians, plumbers, painters, roofers, landscapers, interior decorators ... but it would be rare that a single company would provide all of those services.
Your Coopetor Business Buddies
On the other hand, if you own a painting contracting company in Seattle, a painting contractor in Houston is not very likely to be a competitor. Even though you may provide the exact same service, your geographic targets are completely different.
Consider locating businesses that you can "trade" articles with in an exchange relationship. It should help both of you.
Even better, create or join a network of several and develop some creative exchanges.

There are Two Purposes for using Articles to Help Market Your Small Business
1) To try and broadly promote your company's products or services.
2) In hopes of gaining more links to your website to increase your website's popularity (rank) in the search engines organic search engine results pages.
Both of these are valid purposes.
The articles that you write can be distributed to free sites as well as publishers that require payments to host your articles. Whether or not you should pay for this visibility (which is essentially an advertisement for your company) depends upon how likely you are to be able to generate traffic to your website (or calls to your company) as a result of your article.
Campaign Failure & Sharing the Blame
If your campaign does not yield the results that you reasonably hope, there are several possible reasons:
- Your article was poorly written.
- Your article was not seen.
- Your article was not seen by your target audience.
Leave SPAM Ideas Behind
Article spinning and mass distribution services are likely to get your site penalized. Be careful about this.
A better plan is to have a series of different but complimentary articles covering segments of you area of expertise and more carefully selecting where you host them.
Having your article(s) submitted to places with the only purpose of getting back-links is generally a bad idea.
When selecting a place to host your article, be sure and read their guidelines and follow them to prevent your article from being rejected. Some sites will simply ban you after repeated rejections.

How Many Words Should You Use for Your Articles?
Start by writing your article without consideration to the word count. Use this metric instead: cover your subject as clearly and concisely as possible and long enough to be as complete as is reasonable.
If you can get up to 500 words, you'll have more than enough and consider 1,000 words to be near the top of the range.
It will take the average American reader about 1 minute per 100 words, so a 500 word article will take 5 minutes average to read and a 1,000 word article will take 10 minutes average to read.
Edit the Article to Fit the Publisher's Requirement
Each publisher will have their guidelines for article length.
If you have longer content, break the article up into several articles and link them logically together.
Spell and Grammar Check
Sure, use a spell checker and grammar checker, too, but don't stop there.
Hire a proofreader (third party) before you call it done.
Strip the Rich Text Formatting before Submitting
You probably will use some word processing program (MS Word, Publisher, Pages ...) and these will be using RTF even if it is not visible. Copy your text from whatever program you are using and paste it into a plain text program (such as Notepad) and it will strip all of the non-HTML friendly code from it.
Then, run though it again to make sure your copy is single-spaced with double-spaces only between paragraphs.
Keep Your Paragraphs Shorter
People typically SCAN through things on the internet and they READ books.
If you want to make your article more website-readable, then use shorter paragraphs with short, descriptive sub-headings appropriately placed to keep readers poring down your content.
